WoW Forever Darkspear Islands: the 15v15 battleground off Dustwallow Marsh — four capture points, one central flag, 2000 points to win
Off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh, fifteen Darkspear Raiders and fifteen soldiers of the Theramore Expeditionary Force fight over red-rock islets, troll ruins and a single flag in the middle of the map. That is the scene Blizzard sets for the WoW Forever Darkspear Islands battleground in its 7 October 2026 announcement: 'In this 15v15 battleground, the Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force clash for control of strategic footholds, a central flag, and the rewards waiting for those willing to fight for their faction.'
The map was first mentioned in one sentence at BlizzCon, in the What's Next panel recap, as a battleground 'off the coast of Kalimdor, combining strategic control points with Arathi Basin-style flag captures and defense'. The October post fills in the location, the level range, the victory condition, the objectives, how to queue and how the two reputations work. This page sets out all of it, places the battleground inside Forever's new PvP progression, and lists plainly what Blizzard has still not published — including a go-live date.
Blizzard's spec sheet for the islands
Blizzard opens the announcement with a five-line fact box, reproduced below exactly as published. Every line is short, and each one answers a question the BlizzCon sentence left open. The location narrows from 'off the coast of Kalimdor' to 'Off the Shores of Dustwallow Marsh' — the swamp south of the Barrens that holds Theramore Isle, a fitting home for an Alliance force named after Theramore. The team size is confirmed as 15 a side, the same as Arathi Basin in the original game and between Warsong Gulch (10) and Alterac Valley (40). The level bracket is 30–60, so a character can enter roughly halfway through the levelling journey and keep queueing at the cap.
The two sides are named for the first time. The Horde fights as the Darkspear Raiders — the Darkspear being the Horde's troll tribe — and the Alliance as the Theramore Expeditionary Force. Both are also the names of the battleground's two reputation factions, covered further down. The 'mission' line, 'Capture and Hold', is the shortest summary of the scoring model: capture points matter for as long as you keep them.

| Field | Blizzard's wording |
|---|---|
| Type of Map | 15v15 Capture Point with a Flag Capture Battleground |
| Location | Off the Shores of Dustwallow Marsh |
| Player Levels | 30-60 |
| Victory Condition | First team to 2000 Points |
| Your Mission | Capture and Hold |
| Horde side | Darkspear Raiders |
| Alliance side | Theramore Expeditionary Force |
How a match is won: four capture points, a central flag, 2000 points
Blizzard's scoring description is four sentences long, and every rule in it is quoted here: 'Teams earn points by controlling four capture points across the Darkspear Islands. The more capture points your team controls, the quicker your team accrues points. A flag waits in the middle of the map, giving both teams another objective to fight over. Grab it, bring it to one of the bases your team has captured, and earn more points for your side. The first team to earn 2000 points wins!'
Read as a system, that gives two income streams. The first is passive: held capture points generate points over time, and the rate rises with the number held, so holding three of four outpaces holding two. The second is active: the central flag is worth extra points when it is carried to 'one of the bases your team has captured'. The two are linked by that phrase — a team that holds no capture points has nowhere to bring the flag, so the flag rewards a side that already controls ground rather than rescuing one that has lost it. That is the practical meaning of the BlizzCon wording, which paired 'strategic control points' with 'Arathi Basin-style flag captures and defense'.
Everything numerical beyond 2000 is unpublished. Blizzard does not give the points per second for one, two, three or four held positions, the value of a flag capture, how long a capture takes, whether the flag resets after a score or a drop, whether the carrier is slowed or marked, or whether there is a time limit. The capture points are not named in the post, and no map overview was published with it; the eleven screenshots show scenery, not an annotated layout.

- Four capture points across the islands; more held = faster scoring.
- One flag in the middle of the map, contested by both teams.
- Flag scored by carrying it to a base your team has already captured.
- First team to 2000 points wins.
Queueing for the battleground: battlemasters and the two Barrens bases
Blizzard gives two ways in. The familiar one is a battlemaster: 'Visit a battlemaster located in any major capital city'. The second is new to this battleground and physical: 'in the Barrens (Kalimdor) seek out the Darkspear Raiders base (Horde) at the Merchant Coast or Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance) base located at Northwatch, where a portal will take you into the battle.' The bases are more than entrances — 'These bases also include vendors with reputation rewards you can acquire as you increase your standing with the Darkspear Raiders or Theramore Expeditionary Force. In these areas, you can also pick up quests for the battleground.'
So a player who wants to queue, shop and pick up quests in one visit goes to the faction base in the Barrens; a player who only wants to queue can do so from a capital. Blizzard does not say whether the base portal and the battlemaster join the same queue, whether groups can queue together, or whether queues mix players from different rulesets.

- Reach level 30 — the bracket is 30-60.
- Either speak to a battlemaster in any major capital city, or travel to your faction's base in the Barrens.
- Horde: the Darkspear Raiders base at the Merchant Coast. Alliance: the Theramore Expeditionary Force base at Northwatch.
- At the base, take the portal into the battle; while there, pick up the battleground quests and check the reputation vendor.
- After matches, turn in Marks of Honor for the reputation quests picked up at the base.
Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force: reputation, vendors, tabard
Each side has its own reputation track: 'There is a reputation track for each faction for the Battleground: Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force. They have gear and consumables that you can purchase including trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, armor pieces when hitting different reputation thresholds.' Reputation is raised through quests: 'Turn in for Marks of Honor for reputation quests and unlock a short questline at Exalted to earn the faction's exclusive tabard.'
That mirrors the structure of the original game's battleground factions — a reputation per side, a quartermaster, items gated by standing — with two named endpoints: purchasable gear and consumables along the way, and a tabard earned through a short questline once the faction is Exalted. Blizzard lists categories, not items. There are no item names, item levels, stats, prices or reputation thresholds in the post, and it does not say how Marks of Honor are earned (per match, per win or otherwise) or how many a quest takes.
| Reward | How it is obtained | Published detail |
|---|---|---|
| Trinkets, rings, cloaks | purchased from the faction vendor at reputation thresholds | categories only |
| Weapons, armor pieces | purchased at reputation thresholds | categories only |
| Consumables | purchased from the vendor | categories only |
| Reputation | quests; Marks of Honor turned in for reputation quests | no amounts |
| Faction tabard | short questline unlocked at Exalted | 'the faction's exclusive tabard' |
Where the islands sit in Forever's PvP progression
The battleground plugs into the progression system Blizzard described in a separate post the same day, 'How PvP Progression in World of Warcraft: Forever Works'. Progression 'has two parts: Honor and Rank Points'. Honor is earned by 'defeating other players, completing battlegrounds, and finishing relevant PvP quests'; Rank Points 'come from PvP activities such as battlegrounds and relevant PvP quests'. Both get a boost in 'highlighted battlegrounds during their holiday weeks'. Blizzard does not say which battlegrounds rotate through holiday weeks, or whether the Darkspear Islands is one of them.
One sentence in the progression post bears directly on a new map's chances of being played: 'we reviewed Honor gains across battlegrounds so acquisition rates are more consistent across the board. We want players to enjoy the full range of battleground maps without feeling compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency.' If Honor rates are evened out, the Darkspear Islands competes for players on how it plays rather than on Honor per hour. Ranks have a weekly cap and run to rank 14 — High Warlord for the Horde, Grand Marshal for the Alliance — with rewards from a tabard at rank 1 to epic weapons at rank 14; the PvP page has the full list.
The map was also named in press before Blizzard's post. Lead Classic designer Tim Jones told Kotaku at BlizzCon (14 September 2026): 'We're excited for people to jump into new battlegrounds like the Darkspear Islands to supplement the original Vanilla battlegrounds that people will be able to jump into.' That is press-reported speech, and it is consistent with Blizzard's own later mention of Alterac Valley in the progression post.
We want players to enjoy the full range of battleground maps without feeling compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency.

When it goes live — and the rest of what is not published
Blizzard has not published a date for the Darkspear Islands, either for the beta or for the live game. The 7 October announcement describes the map, the queue and the rewards in the present tense but gives no release date. The What's Next recap lists it in the same 'Dungeons, Raids, and Battlegrounds' section as the nine new dungeons and the two raids, and that section is not itself a launch-day list: the same recap's roadmap says Forever 'launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST' and that 'New raids unlock on December 9'. No source ties the battleground to 4 November or to any other date, so this site does not assume one. If Blizzard posts a date — in patch notes, a WoW Weekly round-up or the launch-day news — it will be added here with the source.
The other open questions are the ones a player would ask after a first match: the names and layout of the four capture points, the scoring rates, the flag's value and reset rules, any match timer, how Marks of Honor are awarded, the reputation thresholds and every item's stats, whether there are separate brackets inside 30–60, and whether the battleground is open on every ruleset. Blizzard's ruleset descriptions say nothing about battleground access. For the other new launch content see the dungeons and raids pages; the roadmap page tracks dated and undated promises, including 'PvP updates'.

- What level do I need to queue?
- Blizzard lists 'Player Levels: 30-60'.
- How do you win a match?
- Be the first team to 2000 points. Points come from holding capture points (more held means faster scoring) and from carrying the central flag to a base your team has captured.
- How many capture points are there?
- Four, per Blizzard. Their names and positions have not been published.
- Where do I queue for the Darkspear Islands?
- At a battlemaster in any major capital city, or at your faction's base in the Barrens — Merchant Coast for the Horde, Northwatch for the Alliance — where a portal takes you into the battle.
- What rewards does the battleground have?
- Two reputation tracks, Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force, with vendors selling trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, armor pieces and consumables at reputation thresholds, plus an exclusive tabard from a short questline at Exalted. Item stats are not published.
- How do I gain Darkspear Raiders or Theramore reputation?
- Through the battleground's quests: Blizzard says you turn in Marks of Honor for reputation quests. How many marks a match awards is not stated.
- Does the Darkspear Islands give Honor and Rank Points?
- Blizzard's progression post says both come from completing battlegrounds and PvP quests, and Honor also from defeating players. It does not single out this map, and does not say whether it is part of the holiday-week rotation.
- Is the Darkspear Islands like Arathi Basin?
- Partly. It is 15v15 like Arathi Basin, and Blizzard's BlizzCon recap described 'strategic control points' combined with 'Arathi Basin-style flag captures and defense'. The central flag carried to your own base is the part Arathi Basin never had.
